Green Day's Mike Dirnt is trying his hand at making movies.
The Hollywood Reporter says the bassist and Green Day's longtime manager Pat Magnarella are producing an independent film called Crickets. Written by Alfredo Botello, the movie follows an aspiring stand-up comic who is dying of a terminal illness and his estranged, "office drone" brother.
Dirnt, whose wife was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, says the subject matter is something a lot of people will be able to relate to. He calls Crickets a "feel good, feel bad, and feel everything movie."
Dirnt and Botello have known each other for the past 20 years, as the writer owns a Bay Area bar the rocker has been known to frequent. They're currently working on putting together a team to help bring Crickets to the big screen.
